JBC International specializes in several areas of international trade and assisting companies expand their markets and presence in foriegn markets. Included among JBC International's areas of expertise are:

International Expansion

In 1998, JBC staff assisted a corporation's expansion into South America. Without publicity, JBC developed strategies and provided guidance to help the company negotiate favorable tax breaks. One year later, JBC International helped produce a business plan to allow an international investment company to finance the fiscal operating budgets of foreign countries. We serve as consultants and intermediaries in the negotiation of international sales, always monitoring US export regulations and sanctions, as well as foreign import regulations.

Increased Profits

JBC International uses a variety of tactics to increase profits and prevent loss. We begin by eliminating barriers to trade by ensuring that your products do not appear on trade retaliation lists. We eliminate unfair standards, quotas, and labeling requirements. A client whose annual export sales were capped at $11 million has seen sales rise to more than $550 million once JBC International eliminated the barriers preventing fair trade of their product.

Concurrent with eliminating structural barriers, we evaluate the classification of the goods in your product line. In one instance, a company with new technology found its product classified at a high tariff rate. Based on our international experience with the Harmonized Tariff System, JBC staff determined that the classification was erroneous, and corrected the error, significantly lowering the duties and effectively increasing revenue.

We leverage our in-country contacts to make certain that your company qualifies for licensing benefits, tax advantages, and profits from regional trade agreements. Our staff routinely files for suspension of duties to allow companies greater revenue retention.

Protecting Business Interests

Intellectual property protection is a staple of JBC International's protection of business interests. JBC International fights intellectual property violations as best suits the situation. When appropriate, JBC coordinates public relations campaigns and lobbies for government retaliation. In other instances, JBC quietly and swiftly responds in country to intellectual property theft that threatens trademarks, copyrights, and patents. Our staff has organized appropriate legal action with local law enforcement agencies, including conducting raids and monitoring the destruction of counterfeit product. We protect not only your intellectual property, but are also sensitive to protecting your company's image and valuable market reputation.

Supply Chain and Logistics Management

In 1996, a company faced duty rates of 5% and 12% depending on how their product was classified by a European country. JBC was commissioned to develop a plan to export the merchandise from the US to the European country of destination at the lowest possible duty rate. Seeing past the 5% and 12% alternatives identified by the company, JBC staff developed a distribution route that took advantage of a 0% duty rate into a different European country. By shipping its product through an alternate European country, our client was able to take advantage of European Union trade regulations and export its product duty free.

JBC International regularly produces global reports for its clients concerning compliance and inventory management. We compile reports that track electronic systems development, and help you analyze how those systems affect the flow of trade. We monitor customs services worldwide and evaluate changes to trade regulations. Fortune 500 companies use our reports to reevaluate potential problem areas in their supply chains.

JBC International seeks to streamline supply chains and logistics by taking the lead in customs automation and modernization efforts. JBC staff created, coordinated, and managed the industry coalition that lobbied for the development and funding of the US Customs Service's Automated Commercial Environment (ACE). We monitor all electronic commerce issues as they relate to development, privacy, and taxation.

Our staff continually provides customs modernization advice to governments in Asia-Pacific, Africa, North and South America, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). We specialize in consulting with governments and international organizations on the design of automated trade systems. We advise the US Government, the World Customs Organization, international associations, and countries around the world on automated systems design.
